FAQ

Cost?

Comparing Invisalign with traditional braces

Although the cost varies with the difficulty and duration of treatment, in our practice Invisalign costs about the same as fixed braces. These fees are spread out in interest-free installments, usually over 12-18 months.

The fee quoted at your consultation covers your entire course of treatment with us, including all aligners, visits, adjustments, and retainers after the aligners. The only extra costs would be for outside treatment (general or specialist dentistry, x-rays, etc.).

A consultation costs $120, and takes about 40 minutes.

We are happy to discuss fees by phone.

Does it work?

Yes.

The basic concept behind the Invisalign technique has been used in orthodontics for many years. However, it is only since the late 90s that computers have been powerful enough to be used in designing and manufacturing these aligners.

More than a million patients around the world have successfully had Invisalign treatment.

Although some people are told that Invisalign will not work or is not suitable for them, in most cases this is not true. Our Portfolio will show you some of the more serious problems that we are able to treat with Invisalign.

Invisalign is an appliance that straightens teeth, and will work, provided the aligners are worn 20 - 22 hours a day.

There is a very small minority of patients who would be better with fixed braces.

How does it work?

If you want technical details, please visit the Invisalign website (opens in a new window) to  see the video.

Aligners work in the same way as braces (without the metal!). Teeth move if you apply forces to them. Each aligner in sequence is subtly different, and is designed to move teeth by a small amount. Wear the aligners for about 22 hours per day, change them every 2 weeks, and your teeth will straighten.

Why doesn't everyone have Invisalign?

Not everybody knows about it.

Not all orthodontists use Invisalign, or are experienced with it.

Some patients are unsuitable (too young, not enough teeth, etc).

Who can have invisalign?

Most adolescents and adults are able to have Invisalign. We can correct crowding, spacing, overbites, crossbites, protrusion, etc.

Before starting treatment, we need most of the permanent teeth (except wisdom teeth) erupted. Usually this means from about 12 years old.

Is it invisible?

Virtually. The aligners are made of transparent plastic, and will not be noticed from a couple of metres away.

What does it look like?

Here are some photos of our patients wearing Invisalign.

Will it interfere with speaking?

Invisalign aligners don't interfere with normal speaking. You may lisp a little for the first day, but that's about it.
